Steep sandy slopes overlaying sandstone bedrock called for 3,800m2 of bored pier and shotcrete shoring to facilitate the excavation for design depth.
Significant savings were made by converting a large portion of the shoring to sheet piling. This alternative design also overcame problems associated with the very steep topography allowing access for smaller, though specialised pitching and driving rigs.
