About the Project

ADDRESS 105 Mary Street, Brisbane

VALUE $9.2 million

OVERVIEW

This 6,000m2 site is Austcorp’s latest residential tower which will reshape the skyline of Brisbane. This 79 storey tower will facilitate the housing of over 600 people and provide commercial office space and retail precincts.

A total of 130,000m3 of material was exported off site, which consisted of 90,000t of acid sulphate soils and up to 40,000m3 of un-rippable rock which required high energy explosives as a means of excavation.

Due to the existence of wet material a series of suspended concrete and structural steel loading platforms and the latest’s telescopic and remote controlled materials handling equipment was utilised to export material including a fully automated remote controlled loading bin, specifically designed and constructed for the project.

Over 900 rock anchors were installed through the 600mm thick diaphragm wall and shotcrete walls below to resist the massive earth pressures of 7 storeys of water charged ground. A detailed preplanning and construction methodology was developed for this project in the very early stages allowing Mainland Civil to develop the correct solutions to complex problems. This included ways of dealing with the excavation and removal of Acid sulphate soils.

This project was handed over on time and on budget.
